The Spotswood High School girls basketball team defeated Lord Botetourt, 47-42, Tuesday night at Eastern Mennonite University to clinch a spot in the Class 3A state championship game.

The Trailblazers trailed by one point after the first quarter but responded to take a seven-point lead into halftime. Spotswood extended its lead to 12 points in the fourth quarter before a furious rally by the Cavaliers cut the deficit to three with under a minute to play.

Spotswood's MacKenzie Freeze knocked down a pair of clutch free throws to ice the game and send the Trailblazers to the state title game.

Spotswood will meet Hopewell in the Class 3A state championship game Thursday at VCU's Siegel Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
