UVA ready for redemption in NCAA Tournament

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The No. 1 seed Virginia men's basketball team is preparing to meet No. 16 seed Gardner-Webb Friday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia earned the No. 1 seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament after posting a 29-3 overall record and winning the ACC regular season title. The Cavaliers are led in scoring by junior guard Kyle Guy who averages 15.6 points per game. Sophomore forward De'Andre Hunter is close behind with 15.1 ppg.

UVA looks to avenge last season's first round NCAA Tournament loss when the Cavaliers became the first No. 1 seed to ever lose to a No. 16 seed when Virginia lost to UMBC.

Gardner-Webb advanced to the NCAA Tournament by winning the Big South Conference Tournament. The Runnin' Bulldogs are 23-11 overall and led by head coach Tim Craft. Redshirt senior guard David Efianayi leads G-W in scoring at 18.4 points per game.
