HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- On Sunday evening, all 33 student athletes of the week from this past academic year were honored at the 31st annual student athlete of the week banquet.

Brooklynn Fridley of Page County High School was named the student athlete of the year. Next year, she is heading to Bridgewater College to
play softball and study elementary education.

"I was shocked and so confused I didn't expect it at all," Fridley told WHSV. "It's just such an amazing honor and I'm so thankful for it."

Lindsey White was given the Leroy Wilkinson Community Service Award.

"I was really shocked. I really did not expect that," White told WHSV. "There are so many people that do so much for the community as well and I've just been really blessed to have been able to have this opportunity."

White is heading to Eastern Mennonite University and will major in elementary education and minor in special education and Spanish. She will also play soccer for the Runnin' Royals.

Fridley and White each received a thousand dollar scholarship from Mountain Valley Corporation.

JMU women's basketball head coach Sean O'Regan gave the keynote speech. Afterwards each student was given a trophy and a chance to tell everyone their post high school plans.
