Forest Fire Consumes About 30 Acres in Augusta County

Fire fighters are trying to contain a 25 to 30 acre forest fire in the George Washington National Forest in Augusta County.

According to volunteer fire fighters with the Deerfield Volunteer Fire & Rescue squad, no buildings are threatened by the fire but some camp sites are nearly a half mile from the flames.

Friday night, the US Fire Service was taking control of the fire fighting operations in the national forest. Fire fighters say the fire is difficult to access by road and a helicopter is being used to dump water on the flames.
