Bicycle Race Hurts Downtown Businesses

Some fast racers gave some businesses a slow day in Waynesboro Sunday.

More than 150 cyclists raced through downtown Waynesboro for the Grand Prix Bicycle Race.

Many parts of downtown were closed off because of the event, and it's something many businesses say they were worried about prior to the race.

They say, during the race, it's even worse than they thought it would be.

Downtown Waynesboro business owner Bill Mikolay says, "Here in the peak of the day where there is usually 15 to 20 customers in the store, we have a massive count of one."

Some store owners say they only made ten percent of their normal sales because Main Street was closed.
