Ex-VA Student Enters Conditional Plea in School Shooting

A former Hampton University student has entered a conditional guilty plea to charges stemming from the wounding of a pizza delivery man and a dorm monitor in a campus dormitory.

Eighteen-year-old Odane Greg Maye entered the plea Monday to malicious wounding, using a gun in a felony, breaking and entering, and shooting into an occupied building.

Hampton Circuit Court Judge Christopher W. Hutton denied a defense request to allow mental illness to be used as a factor in determining guilty or innocence. Maye's lawyers said they plan to appeal that issue to higher courts.

Police said Maye followed the pizza delivery man into a dorm in April and shot the man and a dorm monitor. Maye then turned the gun on himself.
