A former student who shot and wounded two people at Hampton University will spend 14 years in prison.
Prosecutors say 19-year-old Greg Odane Maye shot a pizza delivery driver, a night watchman at a dorm and then himself in April. Both victims have since recovered.
Maye had entered a conditional guilty plea in August to malicious wounding, using a gun in a felony, burglary, and shooting in an occupied building. Public Defender James Gochenour plans to appeal the issue of whether mental illness can be used as a factor in determining guilty or innocence.
Hampton Circuit Court Judge Christopher W. Hutton sentenced Maye Tuesday to 14 years in prison and suspended another 53 years.
