Inmates at WV Federal Prison Still on Lockdown

A month after an inmate was stabbed to death and five others were injured, the U.S. Penitentiary at Hazelton remains on 24-hour lockdown.

Spokesman Timothy Hosker says the lockdown won't be lifted until prison officials can be reasonably certain that there are no further threats to the safety of staff and inmates.

Twenty-six-year-old Jimmy Lee Wilson died in the December 6 fight. He had been serving a nearly 11-year sentence for armed robbery in Maine.

Five others injured in the fight were treated and are back behind bars.

Last month, Warden James Cross said the fight was racially motivated, but he and other officials have declined to provide details.

They say the fight remains under investigation by both the Bureau of Prisons and the FBI.
