UPDATED: Accident Closes Route 340 in Page County

Crews are working to recover a van that went over an embankment on Route 340 in Page County.

The crash was reported around 9:45 p.m., Thursday. The roof of the van involved is gone. Crews had to cut it away to remove the man who was trapped inside.

Fifty-one-year-old Leyland Colley of Stanley was the man driving the van. Investigators say he was on his cell phone when he became distracted. That led to him swerving and over correcting. That action sent him over the bank here.

He was taken to Sentara RMH with non-life threatening injuries.

There is no word on if he is charged.

Emergency teams are directing traffic around the scene. VA 511 says, "On US-340 in the County of Page, in the vicinity of Shenandoah River Rd; Rt. 683N/S (Page County), motorists can expect potential delays due to a vehicle accident. The north through lanes are closed. The south through lanes are closed."

According to the Page County Sheriff's Office, crews are responding to an accident on Route 340.

Virginia 511 reports the road is closed, just north of the Town of Shenandoah.
