HARRISONBURG,Va. (WHSV) -- UPDATE: 8:45 P.M. - More than 100 people showed up to take part in the Newtown conversation that got underway Thursday evening. The gathering took place at the Lucy Simms Center in Harrisonburg. Two more discussions will take place in October.

Newtown was the heart of Harrisonburg's African American community and a large part of it was destroyed for urban renewal in the early 1960's.
