Harrisonburg Man Dies in Fatal Crash

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Virginia State Police continue to investigate a fatal crash that happened on Monday in Rockbridge County.

Two Virginia residents died in the crash, which happened at about 3:45 pm on Route 39 approximately 3/10 of a mile west of Route 803.

Police say the preliminary investigation revealed that Joshua Allen Murphy, 26, of Harrisonburg, who was driving a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria taxi cab, ran off the right side of the road striking a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire and trapping both people in the vehicle.

Murphy and his passenger, Cyrus Greg Carawan, 28, of Lexington, were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash and both were pronounced dead at the scene.

No further information regarding the crash is available at this time and the crash remains under investigation.
