Luray Man Charged in Fatal DUI Crash

PAGE COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday in Page County.

At 4:53 p.m, state police were notified of a two-vehicle crash on Route 211 at Route 340 involving a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 1997 Ford pickup.

The motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Route 211, while the pickup was going westbound on Route 211 when it turned left to head south on Route 340 and struck the motorcycle. The two vehicles hit at the intersection.

Francis H. Watt Jr., 59, of Gordonsville, who was driving the motorcycle, died at the scene as the result of injuries from the crash. Also on the motorcycle was Margaret B. Watt, 53, she was flown to U.Va. Medical Center and her condition is unknown.

John Wayne Price, 63, of Luray, the driver of the pickup was arrested and charged with a DUI. He also faces charges for a felony hit and run and felony manslaughter. He is being held without bond at the Page County Sheriff’s Department Jail and is scheduled for a court appearance later Monday.

The Virginia State Police were also assisted by the Page County Sheriff’s Department, Page County Commonwealth Attorney Office and Page County Fire and Rescue units. The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation.

The investigation is still ongoing into the causative factors and the events that lead up to the crash.
