UPDATED: Power Restored to Valley

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Update 8:20 p.m.
Power has been restored by both SVEC and Dominion to the affected areas from Friday afternoon.


Update 5:45 p.m.
Dominion is reporting about 1,100 people without power in Staunton.

Staunton fire and rescues crews are responding to a reported transformer fire in Staunton belonging to Dominion.

We're working with Dominion to determine when power will be restored here.

Meanwhile, SVEC still reports about a thousand members without power in the Staunton - Augusta County area. Crews are still investigating the cause of this outage. Power has been restored to the Rockingham County area experiencing an outage earlier in the afternoon.


Update 5:05 p.m.

SVEC spokesperson said crews hope to have power restored in about an hour. He said they are working to determine the cause of the outages.


Update 4:40 p.m.

SVEC spokesperson said crews have been dispatched to the areas.


Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative is reporting that nearly 3,000 customers are without power, as of 4:18 p.m.

The cooperative is reporting 1,756 outages in Augusta County and 1,151 in Rockingham County.

The outage in Rockingham County is centered in the northern part of the county, near Bergton, while the outages in Augusta are near Fort Defiance, Staunton and Fishersville.

We know two crews have been dispatched to the outage near Staunton from SVEC. Two crews have also been dispatched to the outage in Rockingham County.

It's unclear what caused the power outages. WHSV is waiting for a call back from SVEC for more information.
