ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV)-- Viewer Bob McHone shared cell phone video of the survivor being airlifted to the hospital just after being rescued. One neighbor, who lives right next door to where this plane landed, says he helped lead the rescue.
Nolan Dean lives right outside of the George Washington National Forest, he received a call from a deputy friend about the plane coming down. Dean knew it was time to start up his own small plane and take to the skies.
He says it only took him 10 minutes of searching when he noticed the tail of the plane, and immediately jumped into action.
"I wasn't about to leave the location until someone got to there with him, with the plane, with the downed plane," said Dean. "Because you don't know if there's a survivor or if there wasn't a survivor. Just looking at the plane, I assumed that there wasn't. That's how bad it looked."
The type of plane which went down was a Cessna 172S, a single engine, fixed wing plane. Police say the victim's name won't be released until family members are notified.
