HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- One Valley organization has won a $15,000 grant from a local non-profit group in Harrisonburg.

The On the Road Collaborative program will launch this fall at Skyline Middle School in Harrisonburg.

The program offers after school classes in science, business, and arts for middle school children and pairs them with community leaders.

Leo Cortes says the group has had a positive impact on his life.

"I used to be a B, C student and now I am an A, B, and close to an A," said Leo Cortes, a student who participated in the program.

"Oh that's what it's all about you know, that's what we came to do," said On the Road Collaborative Board Member Deanna Reed. "To make sure that our kids are successful and it's a good feeling I mean it makes us, it makes us feel good that we're making a difference."

The group hopes to expand to other schools in the near future.
