40,000 Early Voters in West Virginia

West Virginians have one more day to cast early ballots before the special election for governor.

The early in-person voting period began last week and ends Saturday. Counties will hold the final day of early voting from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at their courthouses or judicial annexes.

Secretary of State Natalie Tennant says that more than 40,700 early and absentee ballots had been cast as of Thursday. Democrats outnumber Republicans by slightly less than two-to-one in West Virginia. The ballots cast have been roughly in keeping with that ratio.

West Virginians cast more than 43,600 early votes before the May primary. The state counted more than 108,000 early votes in last year's general election. The 2010 ballot also featured an array of other offices.

The special election is Tuesday.
