Attorney General Backs Local Schools on Gun Policy

Attorney General Jerry Kilgore is agreeing with the Rockingham County School Board about unloaded guns on school property.

In an opinion released this week, Kilgore confirmed the school's right to discipline a student for keeping an unloaded firearm in a locked trunk on school property.

He backed the schools, despite laws permitting unloaded firearms in locked trunks.
The Attorney General did however specify that schools were not allowed to expel students solely for having the firearms in their trunks.
