AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Gaylon W. Adkins, 52, of Augusta Springs, and passenger, Roy J. Jackson, 70, of Augusta Springs died in Friday's accident.
Virginia State Police are still investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Augusta County.
At 11:59 a.m. Friday, VSP was called to the scene of the crash on Route 254 near the intersection of Route 42 in the Buffalo Gap community.
A cattle truck was eastbound on Route 254 when it crossed the centerline and struck head on a westbound 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier.
The driver of the Cavalier, Adkins, and his passenger, Jackson, 70 died at the scene.
The driver of the truck was transported on to UVA Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time. The VSP’s Appomattox Division Accident Investigation Team and Motor Carrier Safety Team are both on scene assisting with the investigation.
The truck was loaded the cattle at the time of the crash. None of the cattle died in the crash and all of the cattle have been safely removed from the truck and transported from the scene.
All lanes are closed on the Parkersburg Turnpike near Rt. 42 due to an accident.
VSP is asking for drivers to use alternative routes or they can expect delays.
