Police Identify Fatal Crash Victim

A two-vehicle crash killed a Timberville man Monday night.

Emergency crews responded to the crash on North Valley Pike near Fellowship Road about 9:30 p.m.

Sgt. Les Tyler of the Virginia State Police say Larry Phillips, 63, of Joplin, Missouri, was traveling southbound in a 2003 Ford Excursion when he entered the center turning lane.

Tyler said he then turned into the path of a 2008 Buell motorcycle, driven by Michael Rexrode, 26.

Rexrode died in the crash. Rexrode's passanger, Megan Mumbert, 22, of Harrisonburg, was taken to Sentara RMH Medical Center and then transferred to the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

Her condition is unknown.

All lanes are back open.

First responders are at the scene of a car accident in Rockingham County, at 5908 North Valley Pike.

Investigators confirm one person died in the accident, and other person was taken to the hospital. At this time we do not know the names of the people involved. Crews say the crash involved a motorcycle and SUV.

As of 10 on Monday night, North Valley Pike is closed.
