Some Students Want to Bring Back Concealed Carry

WEYERS CAVE,Va. (WHSV) -- A group at Blue Ridge Community College wants to bring concealed carry back to campus.

That will be the topic of a meeting at BRCC at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The group is called "Students for the Second Amendment."

Tommy Kelley, the organization's president, said people should be allowed to carry concealed handguns on campus to protect themselves.

Blue Ridge allowed concealed carry until a policy change that went into effect January 2012.

Kelley said the meeting tonight is to let people know what they stand for.

"We're trying to get both sides of the issue, people from both sides of the issue, to come in and give their opinions to us. We'd like to inform the college on what we're doing," said Kelley.

He said he has started a petition to send to the Virginia Community College System and the General Assembly, which already has between 100 and 150 signatures.
