RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Rallies in the resort city of Virginia Beach and Stafford County attracted dozens of supporters of the Confederate battle flag.

Under a pouring rain, nearly 150 people displayed their flags Friday night in Virginia Beach as visitors flocked to the popular oceanfront destination for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

In Stafford County, more than 70 people rallied with Confederate battle flags outside the courthouse, attracting a smaller number of counter-protesters.

The Free Lance-Star of Fredericksburg (http://bit.ly/1KE8Ta0) reports that many at the rally arrived with visible firearms.

About a half-dozen people came out to oppose the rally's message. Some held signs that read, "Not my flag."

At both rallies, flag supporters said they were celebrating history and heritage.
