Emergency Workers Prepare for Heavy Rainfall and Snow

Emergency crews in the Valley were on stand by Wednesday due to heavy rainfall and snow.

Crews with the New Market Volunteer Rescue Squad say it was a quiet night, as they responded to a few routine medical calls.

None involving flooding.

Crews say they prepare themselves by making sure all of their equipment is in working order.

They also go out to monitor rivers and creeks.

"I don't think you can ever prepare for it until it happens. We try to
pre-plan. We know our equipment, we know our areas. Each individual call is different , so we take it as it comes," said Matthew Nugent, with the New Market Area Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Several roads were flooded in Shenandoah County.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, more are expected to close overnight.
