High Speed Chase Unfolds on I-64

The Augusta County Sheriff's Office says Gregory Allen Jones has been taken into custody following this incident.

He is the man who was wanted and considered armed and dangerous after he allegedly broke into a home in Augusta County early Thursday morning.

Deputies say Jones was spotted by law enforcement near Waynesboro this afternoon. Police then chased him westbound on I-64, then eastbound, before he returned to the westbound lanes.

He then crashed near mile marker 101.

Deputies say he was taken to Augusta Health to be evaluated for injuries.


Virginia State Police and other law enforcement agencies were involved in a high-speed chase on Interstate 64 on Thursday afternoon.

The suspect crashed on the shoulder of I-64 eastbound near mile marker 101, which is in Albemarle County, just past Afton Mountain.

At one point during the chase, the suspect was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes.

It appears via Virginia Department of Transportation traffic cameras that the suspect was driving a motorcycle.

VDOT is reporting that the eastbound right lane and right shoulder, as well as the westbound left shoulder are closed.

It also appears someone has been taken into custody.

Traffic is slowing near the scene of the crash.
