STAUNTON, Va.-- The Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library celebrated the 28th president's birthday on Saturday.

The former president was born in 1856 in Staunton.

The day included special events and programs about Wilson's life.

Visitors paid less than usual for the entrance ticket and received discounts at the gift shop.

"I think it has been an exceptional turnout. Part of it I think is because is the centennial of his presidency. He took office 100 years ago this year," said Don Wilson, the library's president.

He said the celebration highlights his first two years of presidency. They include issues that we are still tackling today, such as immigration and currency reform.
