HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Wednesday is World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Day, and a local pizzeria is stepping in to help. For one manager, MS hits very close to home.
Although the pizza at Benny Sorrentinos may taste the same as every other day, for general manager Jon Durham, they hold a very special meaning.
Durham's mother has been fighting MS for 14 years, and Wednesday, 15 percent of the proceeds went to the local chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
"If you let it, it will really bring you down," Durham said. "It's a fight every single day, and like I said, my mom is the strongest woman I've ever met. She fights and deals with it every day, and she actually wins."
An estimated 2.5 million people have MS worldwide. The disease attacks the body's central nervous system, and symptoms usually show up between your 20s and 30s.
Durham hopes that every pizza he bakes will help find a cure for his mother and others with MS.
To donate to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, just go to any of the Benny Sorrentino's locations.
