AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Augusta County sheriff's deputies arrested a Goshen man, claiming he beat a Craigsville man with a metal bar.

Travis Howard, 23, is charged with felony attempted murder.

Deputies say the attack took place at a home in the 60 block of North Hancock Street in Craigsville at about midnight Tuesday, October 13.

Several people were gathered in a garage when Howard attacked Robert Curtis Nichols, 35, according to deputies.

Nichols was out on bond on felony charges in Augusta County. He is charged with felony use of a computer to solicit a child for sex and felony indecent liberties with a child. He's accused of trying to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex after meeting her on Facebook.

Deputies say the victim called Howard a name and then Howard picked up a metal bar and hit Nichols on the head.

Nichols was knocked unconscious, deputies say.

The victim was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center and his condition is unknown.

Howard is being held in the Middle River Regional Jail without bond.
