Neighbors React to Weekend Drug Bust

WAYNESBORO, Va. -- Two people are in jail tonight after being arrested on felony drug charges over the weekend.

Alan White watched as SWAT teams raided this home in the Wayne Hills area of Waynesboro Saturday night.

"It makes me feel sad to see people that act like they've got to do that in a nice neighborhood like this," said White.

Officers arrested Lance Brooks, 37 years old of Staunton, and Michael Wesley Hartless, 42 year old of Waynesboro, on one count each of Possession of Methamphetamine with the Intent to Distribute.

White says the drug bust makes him fear for the safety of others.

"There could be somebody that comes through and does a drive-by, there are kids out here and they could get shot up too, not being aware of what's going on. So something's got to be done," said White.

Sergeant Brian Edwards with Waynesboro police says they've received several complaints of possible drug activity at the house. He thinks the public plays a vital role in fighting the problem.

“It is frustrating when you know that we have a problem, but our citizens are working very closely with us,” said Edwards. "We get several calls throughout the city of problem areas and people always seem to have the same information, that there are a lot of cars and people, a lot of foot traffic coming and going from a residence at all hours of the night."

Brooks and Hartless are being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail. Charges are pending against two other individuals who were also inside the house at the time of the raid.
