HARRISONBURG -- On Monday, SERCO company leaders celebrated their 2 millionth application. SERCO separates patents into different categories before they're sent to the government.

Congressman Bob Goodlatte said it was important not only for the government but for the overall economy. He said SERCO issues good quality patents at a quick pace.

Congressman Goodlatte said companies like this help bring more jobs to the area.

"It is also the trend here in the Valley toward more and more technology oriented companies,” he said, “It's a great partnership with universities like James Madison and some of the others in the area and it's also a great job opportunity for people coming out of James Madison University.

SERCO's program manager said the company receives 350,000 applications per year and they process up to 1450 per day.

Goodlatte said before 2007, there wasn't a pre-sorting process like the one SERCO does.
