People React to News of Shooting and Home Invasion

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Police say they responded to the 1000 block of Lois Lane for a shooting. Police say one person has been shot.

Police are trying figure out if the call for the home invasion and shooting are related.

Three suspects were detained and released.

Emily Lodato's apartment is close to where the shooting happened. Police say a man was shot in his lower body. About a half mile away, police responded to a home invasion at the Hunter's Ridge Apartments near Hunter Road.

"It's very scary because it's so close to home," said Lodato."It could happen to anybody."

William Cruz has a friend who lives in the building where the home invasion happened. He says this will make him think twice about his surroundings when he gets home.

"It's pretty scary because we're all college students here and we're just trying to be safe, but if people are coming in robbing us then we don't feel safe at all," said Cruz. "It makes me lock my door every time I enter my house. Usually, sometimes we forget to lock our doors."

Lodato says she plans to be more careful the next time she leaves her apartment and hopes you do the same.

"Make sure that you're staying with people and not walking by yourself, and making sure your doors are locked and are very careful about where you're putting everything. Locking your cars, stuff like that, and always staying with people," said Lodato.

Police are trying to find out whether the two incidents are related and they're are still working on description of the suspects.
