TIMBERVILLE, Va. (WHSV) -- Emergency personnel descended on an area elementary school on Thursday, but there wasn't a crisis. They were there to teach students about the jobs they perform each and every day.

It was all a part of Community Heroes Day at Plains Elementary School in Timberville.

It's a day where students can interact with emergency personnel. Students had the opportunities to spray fire hoses and climb into a police car among other activities.

They also watched as Assistant Principal Joseph Kapuchuck rappelled down the side of the school.

One student at Plains Elementary wants to be a police officer. She was given some interesting new details about the job.

"They told me when they have to taser, they have to see what it feels like. The pepper spray too. I didn't know that," explained Riley Saverance, a fourth grader.

This year's Community Heroes Day turned into such a success that teachers are hoping it can turn into an annual event.
