VERONA,Va. (WHSV) -- Stuff a Truck for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank was a smashing success.
Monday, volunteers weighed the bins and began sorting the donations.
The food drive happened just in time as the shelves are bare this time of year.
The generous Valley shelled out 37,645 pounds of food, when the Food Bank's initial goal was 30,000.
Giving more than 30,000 of our Valley neighbors a meal in the coming days. The USDA views a pound of food as roughly equaling a meal.
"Terrific response, people brought food they bought food, donated cast, it was a great showing in the community. We're so grateful because this time of year need really starts to pick up," said Michael McKee, the CEO of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
