"Don't Ask, Don't Tell" Debate Extends to Virginia National Guard

Just a few days after one Virginia lawmaker announced he wants to extend "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" for the Virginia National Guard, another lawmaker announced Wednesday that he plans to do the opposite.

Democratic Del. Joseph Morrissey, from Richmond, says he wants to introduce a bill that makes it clear that openly gay soldiers can serve in the Virginia National Guard.

This is in direct response to Del. Bob Marshall's plan to keep "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in place.

"Mr. Marshall's proposed legislation is in direct contrast to federal law and the United States Constitution," says Morrissey.

Both lawmakers say they will introduce their bills in the upcoming General Assembly session in January.
