West Virginia Delegate Hospitalized with Gunshot Wound

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia House Speaker Tim Miley says a state lawmaker from Monongalia County is hospitalized with a gunshot wound.

Miley tells The Associated Press that a daughter of Delegate Anthony Barill informed him the 80-year-old Barill was shot in the leg early Saturday during a "family situation." Miley declined to be more specific.

Ruby Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Amy Johns says Barill was in fair condition Saturday.

A Morgantown police statement didn't mention Barill but said the department is investigating an "unattended death" in the city's Woodburn area.

A county emergency services log shows a shooting occurred at Barill's Morgantown home and that officers arrived at 1:50 a.m. The EMS log also shows a medical examiner responding to the residence and another EMS unit being sent to a funeral home.
