Communities and agencies all across the Commonwealth gathered to pay respects to Mark Christopher “Chris” Wagner II, the Wintergreen officer killed in the line of duty.
According to Dana Schrad, Executive Director for the Virginia Association of chiefs of Police, because the Wintergreen Police Department is a state authorized private police department, the department does not qualify for line of duty death benefits from the state.
“To be fortunate enough to have known somebody such as remarkable as he, is just an incredible experience in life itself because he truly was a hero and will forever to a hero in our citizen’s hearts,”
On the one-year anniversary of a deadly shooting at Bridgewater College that took the lives of two Bridgewater College Police Officers a group of parents of BC students is voicing concerns about what they say is a lack of security improvements by the school since the shooting.
The Bridgewater community came together on the one-year anniversary of the February 1 deadly shooting at Bridgewater College to remember the sacrifice of fallen Bridgewater College Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer Vashon “J.J.” Jefferson.
February 1, 2022 is a day many of us will never forget. It was a day that two brave officers made the ultimate sacrifice on Bridgewater College’s campus.
Whether it was a meal, a song, or a simple gesture, businesses wanted to do their part to honor and support students, faculty, and residents of the town.
