WOODSTOCK, Va. (WHSV) - On Tuesday night, the Woodstock Town Council will hold a public hearing on a special use permit that would bring more housing to the town. If approved, it would allow for a portion of the proposed Glenmont Subdivision to be built. The housing development was initially approved nearly 20 years ago and is finally moving forward.

“There are a few different moving pieces here. They also have a preliminary plat that’s under review with staff as well and so that would outline the entire development. But the special use permit is just for the townhomes, the 31 townhome units,” said Woodstock Town Manager Aaron Grisdale.

NK2 Woodstock, LLC is seeking a special use permit to build the 31 townhomes on a property off of South Main Street just inside Woodstock’s southern town limits. This would be part of the Glenmont subdivision, which was approved back in 2005, but has been on hold since then.

“Just general market conditions over the last twenty years have ebb and flowed. It’s been sold a couple of times over the past 20 years, and so I think the current owner feels like now is the time that it’s appropriate for the development to move forward,” said Grisdale.

Once complete, the Glenmont Subdivision will total around 240 units, most of which will be single-family homes that were approved in 2005, in addition to some commercial development.

In the coming months, the town will review the engineering details and planning for the subdivision like its streets and water and sewer pipes.

“The town council will approve the final subdivision plats but it’s not necessarily yes or no on the units themselves it’s more does this layout match the code?” said Grisdale.

Grisdale said that the development will help address the need for housing in the town.

“We just in general need additional housing supply and I don’t have specific metrics to that but as part of our comprehensive plan engagement that we’ve been doing for our comp plan update there is certainly a need for additional housing whether that’s owner-occupied housing or rental housing,” he said.

The public hearing will begin at the Woodstock Municipal Offices at 7:15 on Tuesday, March 5.
