Plastic surgeon surrenders medical license amid allegations of botched medical procedures
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) - A prominent Mississippi plastic surgeon has surrendered his medical license following allegations from patients that he botched their surgeries.
According to documents obtained by WLBT, Dr. Fred Adair Blackledge gave up his ability to practice medicine in Mississippi.
The move comes months after a reported investigation involving several of Blackledge’s patients and claims that he performed faulty medical procedures.
Patients claimed some procedures were performed without anesthesia and resulted in nerve damage and other issues.
Blackledge allegedly performed surgeries faster than many in the field, completing facelifts in a third of the time it would typically take.
The doctor told the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure last month in a letter that he was giving up his license, which effectively ends the board’s investigation.
Blackledge has denied any wrongdoing while saying he has decided to retire from the practice of medicine.
The plastic surgeon has acknowledged that charges could be brought against him at a later time.
Authorities said Blackledge has not currently been criminally charged.
