TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD/Gray News) - A couple was killed in a single-engine plane crash at an Arizona airport on Wednesday.

KOLD confirmed that Chris and Jacque Sheafe were killed when a single-engine plane ran off the runway and burst into flames at the Marana Regional Airport.

The two were on their way back from Indianapolis, where they cheered on the University of Arizona Wildcats in the Final Four.

Rio Nuevo Chair Fletcher McCusker said in a statement that Chris Sheafe “loved life.”

“He loved life. He loved Jacque (a pure joy to be around). He cherished his time with Rio Nuevo and he loved to fly,” McCusker said. “To say Chris is irreplaceable is an understatement, and we all need some time to grieve.”

According to an incident report, the plane was landing when it crashed. The report states the crash happened “under unknown circumstances.”

There were no other reported injuries and no other aircraft was involved.
