Page County baseball & softball, Riverheads baseball claim state titles

Three area teams claimed state titles Saturday at Radford University.

On the baseball field, Page County defeated Virginia High, 5-4, to win the Class 2A State Championship. Freshman left-handed pitcher T.R. Williams threw a complete game and the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab the lead and hold for the win.

Meanwhile, the Page County softball team claimed its third state title in the last five years as the Panthers defeated Richlands, 3-0, to win the Class 2A State Championship. Page County did not allow a single run in its three state tournament games.

In the first game of the day, Riverheads used an eight-run second inning to cruise to a 13-1 victory over Honaker in the Class 1A Baseball State Championship. The victory comes on the five-year anniversary of the Gladiators first-ever baseball state title back in 2013.
