Katy Solt
Reporter
Charlotte, NC

Katy Solt joined WBTV as a reporter in August 2025 and is thrilled to be back working in her hometown. As a Charlotte native, Katy loves getting out in the community, meeting new people, and telling the stories that matter most to those who live and work here.
Katy is a proud graduate of Charlotte Catholic High School and the University of South Carolina. She graduated early from USC with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Theater before starting her career in news.
For the past 3.5 years, Katy anchored the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts for WCIV in Charleston, SC. She's had the privilege of covering several national stories, including: the Alex Murdaugh double-murder trial; the arrest of Brittanee Drexel's killer; the Boeing whistleblower death investigation; hurricanes, and even snowstorms, in the Lowcountry. She won RTDNAC Awards for her coverage of the Alex Murdaugh trial, and for her series "Behind the Badge," which highlighted the unique backgrounds of law enforcement officers across the Charleston area.
If Katy looks familiar, she previously worked in Charlotte for 4 years at another news station as a fill-in anchor, traffic anchor and reporter. She covered major headlines during her first stint here, including: the tragic shooting at UNC Charlotte; the sale and purchase of the Carolina Panthers in 2018; the creation of Charlotte FC; and Charlotte's response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Katy also worked as a reporter at WSPA in Spartanburg, SC, and at WFXG in Augusta, GA where she covered major weather events from snow to wildfires, sporting events like the Masters Golf Tournament, and the arrest of serial killer Todd Kohlhepp.
When Katy isn't working, she loves working out, watching the Carolina Panthers or South Carolina Gamecocks on the field, catching a show at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, or trying any of the amazing new restaurants around town.
